THE new Lorry Park on Harbour Road should be completed by the end of the month.
Councillor Ian Tait (pictured below at the site), told the Herald: "Hardcore, kerbing, soiling and lighting work is now complete.

"It is hoped to start the asphalt work this week, but this is of course weather dependent.

"If the snow and frost
lifts next week there is approximately 7 to 10 days work left to complete so we are still on programme to finish before end March," he said.

Meanwhile, council officers have moved quickly to repair water damage at the Saltoun Chambers in Fraserburgh.

The historic building in Saltoun Square is used as the meeting place by members of Fraserburgh Community Council.

At their most recent meeting, community councillors noticed damage to the plaster on the ceiling in the chamber.

Cllr Tait told the Herald: "At the last community council meeting, a member drew my attention to the damaged plaster on the roof which was clearly coming from water damage.

"I contacted the council's property department because it is very important to protect our old buildings in the town," he said.

It transpired that council officers were already aware of the situation where the roof had sprung a leak causing water damage to the paint finish on the ceiling when the plaster became saturated.

"The leak was repaired at the beginning of January," said Cllr Tait.
"No work has been done yet to repair the paint work on the roof as the plaster needs to dry out thoroughly before repainting.

"The cold and humid weather conditions, exacerbated by the infrequent heating in the council chamber, has prevented the plaster from drying out and reaching a condition suitable for repainting.

"However I have been assured that when the plaster is suitably dry, the paint work will be attended to," he added.
