Scalloway Park home could house six children
HOME FROM HOME: The proposed childrens home will house up to six children at Scalloway Park.
PLANS for a replacement childrens care home at Scalloway Park have been revealed online this month, the single-floor replacement home able to house up to six children.
The plans will see the current childrens home at Scalloway Park be replaced with the a modern complex that features eight bedrooms, two of which for staff, office space, a lounge, a multi-purpose room and a kitchen and dining area.
The new home, however, has been met with opposition from some members of the public who believe that a new home at Scalloway Park is not in the best interests of the residents.
Councillor Brian Topping responded to claims this month that he had told residents of Scalloway Park that the existing home was due for closure and that a new home would not be built by informing the Fraserburgh Herald that was factual at the time, ten years ago.
“That is indeed what I was told - at the time the plans were to close it,” he said, adding later that will have an “open mind” on the application.
“It’s open for debate, and I will listen very closely to my constituents,” said the councillor.
The smaller, single storey building will be, as referenced to in the report to the Banff and Buchan Area Committee, a “‘home from home’ and have the appearance and setting of a private residential house, with additional provision of security and safety.”
Councillors agreed to a £1,294,683.51 cost for the proposed home at the May meeting of the Banff and Buchan Area Committee.
