The proposal to reduce the speed limit at Memsie from 50-miles-per-hour to 40-miles-per-hour received no objections from members of the public during Aberdeenshire Council’s consultation period.

As a result, the speed limit can be reduced immediately, with signs expected to be installed in the coming weeks.

Local residents had three weeks to object to the plans, which will cost the council in the region of £2,500 to implement.

Fraserburgh and District Councillor Ian Tait had launched a campaign with local residents to install cameras at the site to catch prosecute drivers failing to abide by the law, receiving over 50 signatures from local people in support of the proposal.

Grampian Police responded last year saying that they were not aware of suitable equipment for the proposal.

The new speed limit can now be implemented this month, affecting the A981 Fraserburgh to Strichen road.
