Councillor Topping reveals ‘no drinking’ signs, positive about their impact in helping police
Councillor Brian Topping has revealed the design of his ‘no drinking’ street signs this week, telling the Fraserburgh Herald that he believes they will ultimately help police in their attempts to curb on-street drinking in Fraserburgh.
Speaking to the Fraserburgh Herald, Councillor Topping said:
“I’ve had meetings with Fiona Stuart and Margaret-Jane Cardno about the signs.
“I understand that signs don’t actually stop people drinking on the street, but, at the least, putting these signs up is helpful for police to enforce the law.
“There is absolutely no excuse for not knowing about this bye-law that prohibits on-street drinking.
“I’ve met with Inspector John Esson to discuss the hot-spots, as it were, for these signs to go up, and I’d hope to have them along Broadsea and up the coastal route to the lighthouse, and into the town centre.
“I’ve been pushing for this for a while now, so I’m delighted that it’s near to completion.
“The report is going ahead at my request, and we should see a decision in a future meeting.”
Councillor Brian Topping added that he though people drinking on streets and causing a nuisance of themselves was completely inexcusable, something that he hopes these signs will look to calm down for his constituents.
