Advice for North-east snow travel

Ahead of Friday, January 18’s anticipated snow fall, BEAR Scotland provided reassurance nad advice for those looking to travel via road.

A spokesperson said: “Preparation is everything. We have 28 spreaders with ploughs and 56 operatives on standby to ensure they can be utilised for 24 hours throughout the weekend should the need arise. In addition, there is 11,000 tonnes of salt in stock at the depots and five Fastracs with ploughs which can be used for snow clearance with a further 12 operatives on standby for clearing snow from footpaths should they be required.

“However, our usual advice applies. If the weather is poor then unless the journey is really necessary we would advise postponing it. If you must head out, do so with caution. Check the weather report for the whole of your journey, not just the local one as conditions can change within a short distance. Carry a blanket, snacks and something to drink in case you get stuck and make sure your phone is fully charged in case it is
needed.

“We’re out now pre-treating the roads and we are prepared for heavy snowfall but staying safe is always the best protection.”

It snowed intermittently in Fraserburgh for most of Friday morning and afternoon.
