Shell warn of flaring and venting over August

Shell U.K. Limited would like to inform our local communities that the Shell St Fergus Gas Plant, near Peterhead, will be intermittently flaring and venting (releasing gas to the atmosphere) on August 14 and from August 19 to August 25, as part of their safe maintenance programme This will be kept to the minimum amount that is operationally possible, and does not pose any increased risk to the local community.

Local communities may notice more activity than usual, as they temporarily shutdown part of the St Fergus linked North Sea offshore and onshore infrastructure, for planned maintenance. All relevant authorities have been informed.

Shell say they always work to keep flaring to a minimum at St Fergus Gas Plant but during this planned maintenance work, excess gas will be flared off primarily from the ground flare but intermittently from the elevated flare. We are working hard to minimise the overall impact, we continue to review our operations and look for alternative ways to flare the gas during this period.

Shell have informed all of their industry customers and have put in place measures to ensure they do not suffer undue disruption. Normal operations are expected to resume by September 10.

Shell would like to apologise for any inconvenience or concerns in advance that this may cause.

If you require any further information please contact Shell on 01779 872240
