Coming soon: The Orphan Shop will open up the boarded up property on the High Street which is used as Toymasters at Christmas.

The Orphan Shop is returning to Fraserburgh and is back by popular demand.

The ‘Little Endy Project’ or better known as ‘Zimbabwe Orphan’s’ will open the shop at 11 High Street on April 1.

The boarded up shop will be in full use again with the charity asking for kind donations to send to orphans in Zimbabwe and other countries.

Donations of clothing, shoes, appliances and toys would are sought for as these are the items most needed by the orphans. Also items such as sewing machines come in handy as it allows the orphans to make clothing, bedding etc for themselves.

Currently the organisation has 45 orphans that they deal with. Zimbabwe suffers from political, economic, and medical disaster at the present time. The AIDS crisis has left approximately 1.2 to 1.3 million children as orphans. As of January 2007, the inflation rate was approximately 1,600% with 80% unemployment rate and approximately 90% poverty rate. The government does not offer care for the orphans and many orphans end up on the street, doing whatever it takes to survive.

The Orphan shop will sell anything that is donated. This includes electrical appliances that will be PAT tested before sending the item out to Zimbabwe.

Last year the charity sent out a generator, paid for chickens, drums and school fees of £4000.

The project started in Fraserburgh after a woman in Zimbabwe had children constantly left on her doorstep who she took in and fed but sometimes had problems providing clothes, shoes etc and that’s where ‘Zimbabwe Orphans’ stepped in to help.

To donate to the shop you can come by when it opens on April 1 or alternatively you can contact Tina Buchan on 01346 516815 and arrange to drop off items.
