A Fraserburgh and District councillor is pushing for funding to have a shipwreck moved from the Invercairn coast.

Councillor Brian Topping hopes The Sovereign, which has been shipwrecked near Fraserburgh since 2005, will be moved to a different location on safety grounds. The boat has recently been made famous having reportedly appeared on promotional posters for Hollywood blockbuster Life of Pi.

Councillor Topping is now looking at potential funding for the Sovereign to be moved elsewhere and has spoken with Council officer David-John McRobbie. Cllr Topping says the money could come from Axis, AEFF or even from the makers of Life of Pi.

Commenting, Cllr Topping said: “People in Cairnbulg/Inverallochy see it as an eye sore. However, it could put the place on the map.

“I have been informed by a Council officer who has said there is money available to move it if that is the wish of the community.”
