FRASERBURGH FC will launch their new kit next month.

In a significant move away from a conventional shirt sponsorship, the club have announced that they will carry the "Macmillan Cancer Support" logo on the front of their shirts at all levels from the first team through to the youths to raise awarene
ss for what is a very worthwhile cause.
Broch Chairman Finlay Noble told the Herald about the new initiatives:
"If you also included the new club crest, which will be on the shirts for the first time, it is a very interesting change of kit.

"We have had a very close relationship with Soccer World in Aberdeen for many years and they have been supplying our kit since 1998.
"With their help we have secured a deal with Italian company MACRON, which has enabled the club to receive both the home and away playing kits for the 1st team free of charge.

"By purchasing all our replica kits and also agreeing to change all our subsidiary kit like tracksuits, warm up kit etc to MACRON has enabled the club to get a deal which in the current financial climate is very welcome indeed."

Regarding the link with Macmillan the Chairman said:

"With the current climate for sponsorship being very tight, it is increasingly difficult to get companies to become major club sponsors and one of our Directors Peter Bruce, who has been our main sponsor for the past four years, suggested we get a number of companies who would be willing to become club sponsors on a smaller scale.

"With this he also suggested that we should put a charity on the front of the shirts as opposed to a company and help promote a good cause. This found unanimous favour within the board of directors and it was agreed to go with Macmillan."

FFC Director Peter Bruce believes it is fitting that the Broch join with a charity in this way:

"This year the sponsor name on our shirts is Macmillan Cancer Support, which is the first time that a charity name is being promoted by a highland league team.

"It was a collective decision by the club sponsors and board of directors as cancer is something that affects and touches so many people and we wanted to raise the profile and awareness of Macmillan Cancer Support locally.
"It is particularly poignant for me as I have been supporting Macmillan for over 10 years both in business and personally since a family friend was affected by cancer and was supported by Macmillan nurses."

Local Fundraising Manager for 'We are Macmillan Cancer Support', Katie Smart, who is based in Aberdeen, told 'The Herald': "It is really fantastic that the club are supporting us in this way. We are very grateful that they have chosen Macmillan. It's really going to help raise awareness of what Macmillan do in the local area and we look forward to working with the club in the future."

The Chairman continued: "Everyone in our area has some contact with a cancer victim, whether it be family or friends and with our own club being affected with the passing of Gordon Chegwyn due to cancer, it is an honour for our club to promote the great work carried out by the Macmillan Nurses, not only in our area but througout the country.

"We will be supporting the charity in a number of ways but primarily we are donating £5 from the sale of every replica shirt sold. I am sure that all our supporters and our sponsors will be delighted to be associated with this very worthwhile Charity."

The new club crest is being released to coincide with the club centenary in 2010.

Mr Noble said: "We have had our old crest for a number of years now and we wanted to go back to a design from the past to take us into our next 100 years.

"It is a design used 50 years ago with a slight alteration by adding the name the town is most commonly known by and also the year the club was formed. This will be an exclusive design used by the club and we have agreed to give the old crest to Fraserburgh Link Up for them to use as their own.

"We gave Link Up permission a number of years ago to use our crest and we feel it is only right that we should allow them to continue to use it as they see fit. They are an exceptionally well run organisation with a proud history and the town of Fraserburgh as well as Fraserburgh FC rely heavily on them to keep the flow of youngsters playing football in the area going."

The club have been indebted to Gordon Bruce of Duthie & Bruce over the years with his help in selling their replicas and with that not being an option now have turned to recently opened Designs On You on Commerce Street as the new outlet for the kit sales.

The new kit be on sale on Saturday, 11th July, from Designs On You in Commerce Street and this year there will be an exciting new logo on the front as well as a fantastic kit partnership with Italian Kit Manufacturer MACRON.

Mr Noble added:
"We were struggling to think of what we could do with the replica sales as we have no facilities or manpower at the club to do this during the week, but Fiona White the owner of Designs On You has come to our rescue.

"We will be doing the same deal with Designs On You as we did with Duthie & Bruce and allow them to use our crest for t-shirts, fleeces, scarves, hats etc, which they will sell as well as our kit. The replica kits will have to be paid for by cash or cheque at the request of the club to keep everything above board.

"The club have no credit card facilities and we cannot use those of Designs On You. Hopefully this will not prove to be a major problem."
The Home Kit will be the traditional Black & White stripes but the Away Kit will now be Sky Blue tops with Navy shorts and white socks.
The prices for replicas will be £40 for adults shirts and £35 for kids with £5 of this being donated to We Are Macmillan Cancer Support. Shorts will be priced at £7.

MACRON started out producing sportswear for well-known Italian and international brands but have their own brand now and many leading international clubs have chosen to use their goods.
