Fraserburgh Academy emerged victorious after a hard-fought 90 minutes.
However, the 6-2 scoreline was not a true reflection of how well Mintlaw played.

Particularly in the second half, when Fraserburgh goalkeeper, and man of the match, Joe Barbour was called into action on several occasions to keep Mintlaw out.

Fraserburgh's blistering start, from which Mintlaw never fully recovered, saw two goals from Neil 'Shearer' Moir and one from Raymond Clark inside the first ten minutes.

All three goals were clinically finished by the speedy duo, who got in behind the Mintlaw defence to get on the end of three well-delivered through balls. Mintlaw came back into the game five minutes from half-time, grabbing a goal from a free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box.

A cleverly-bent low shot around the defensive wall found the bottom right hand corner of the net, just out the reach of Barbour's outstretched left hand.

Fraserburgh restored their three-goal cushion with a minute to go in the first half, with Johnny Chalmers producing a 'Goal of the Season' contender.

Chalmers managed to get on the end of a 40 yard diagonal ball played into the box; executing a perfect first time volley with the outside of his right boot, looping the ball perfectly into the far corner of the Mintlaw net, leaving the keeper with no chance.

The goal capped an excellent first half performance by the midfielder, who had been at the centre of all Fraserburgh's good attacking play. The second half saw Jack Walker and AJ Buchan make way for Matthew Garden and Courtney Cooper respectively.

Despite causing the Mintlaw defence problems with his pace in the first half, Darius Duncan was moved to right back with Cooper going in at right midfield and Garden a like-for-like replacement for Walker as a holding midfielder. Mintlaw started the second half brightly, with Barbour called into action on a couple of occasions, before a mistake in the Mintlaw defence allowed Cooper to run in on goal and round the keeper before making it 5–1 to Fraserburgh.

Fraserburgh followed the fifth goal with a substitution, Jake West replacing Grant Sutherland at left midfield.

Despite having conceded another goal early in the half, Mintlaw rallied and pushed Fraserburgh back for almost the entire second half.

The Mintlaw midfield took control of the game, with their strikers giving the Fraserburgh backline of Duncan, Downie, Barnett and Ritchie a torrid time. Barbour pulled off some more excellent saves before Mintlaw managed to pull a goal back on the hour-mark, making the score 5-2.

Fraserburgh responded with a double substitution, taking off goal heroes Moir and Clark, who had run themselves into the ground chasing long through balls in the second half, replacing them with Martin Anderson and Rudi Taylor.

Anderson played up top, while Taylor went in at right midfield allowing Cooper to push forward.

The tactical switch did not work, Mintlaw continued to pour forward in a relentless assault on Barbour's goal. However, the big keeper was a match for everything they could throw at him, making a series of excellent point blank saves.

Mintlaw continued to throw players forward in the search for goals, leaving them short handed at the back.

With just under ten minutes left, Fraserburgh took advantage of the space in the Mintlaw rear guard, and made sure the cup was heading back to the Broch.

Chalmers' capped an excellent individual performance by latching on to a long through ball and coolly slotting home Fraserburgh's sixth, and his second, to put the result beyond doubt.
