THE first round of the Fosters Highland League Cup has seen Fort William, Fraserburgh, Wick Academy and Huntly all handed ties with the Lochaber men welcoming the Broch while Black and Golds will make the trip to Harmsworth Park.
With a full card of Highland League games scheduled for the same day as the first round of the Cup, the draw means that the Buckie Thistle v Fraserburgh, Fort William v Huntly and Wick Academy v Clachnacuddin SHFL fixtures that were due to be played
on March 6th will now have to be fitted in elsewhere in the calendar.
The rest of the rounds were also drawn and in the second round, holders Inverurie Locos will welcome Deveronvale to Harlaw Park in the pick of the ties. Forres Mechanics host the winners of the Huntly v Wick Academy tie while last year's runners up Fraserburgh will be at home to Clachnacuddin if they can get past Fort William in round one.
Cup debutants Turriff United will be at Rothes in the second round as manager Kris Hunter pits his wits against his former assistant Graham McBeath while Strathspey Thistle have a tough task to progress as they welcome Buckie Thistle to Seafield Park in their first ever tie in this competition. The third new club in the competition are Formartine United and they go to Lossiemouth in round two.
Two new managers who will be leading their sides into this competition for the first time could meet in the quarter finals as Keith's new boss Darren Still welcomes Brora Rangers in round one while Cove Rangers co-managers Jerry O'Driscoll and Kevin Tindal take their charges to Nairn County. If Cove and Keith can make it through then they will meet one another in the last eight.
The draw was made this morning at the Inverurie Loco Works Social Club at Harlaw Park. Paul Allan representing sponsors Fosters picked out the home clubs while Highland League President Eddie Innes pulled the away teams out of the hat.
