A FUND-RAISING Dinner in support of two promising young Broch golfers and the Junior Section of Fraserburgh Golf Club is being held next month.
Jordan Findlay and Kris Nicol are two of the town's brightest talents.
Both hope to make a career out of golf.
Jordan, who plays off
plus two, is currently on a golf scholarship at East Tennessee State University in America. He will graduate in May 2009, after he has completed the four year course.
He has had some very strong finishes in the States. Two top five placings and a few top 20 finishes. Jordan is currently being coached by Bob Torrance and is a member of the Scottish squad. He has represented Scotland at Youth and Boys level. He won the British Boys Championship in 2004 and was also a finalist in 2005.
He also represented and played for the winning Great Britain & Ireland team v Europe.
Jordan is currently playing in the South East of England championship at Walton Heath.
After Jordan graduates he will returning home to Scotland and will play full time as an amateur for the 2009 season and will then assess his future from there.
Kris Nicol currently playing off a +3 handicap exactly.
"Fraserburgh golf club have kindly allowed me to work part-time this season in order to play in the Scottish Golf Union events this year. There are 13 in total covering most of Scotland," Kris told the Herald.
He has also played in the British Amateur at Turnberry, the Welsh Amateur at Conwy, St Andrews Links Trophy and the Lytham Trophy.
Kris has finished top ten in four of the events so far this season with six events still to play. His top finish was third at Haggs Castle on July 6, which means that he is currently sitting in the top twenty on the Order of Merit.
"The aim for the season was to be experience playing with the top amateurs in Scotland on a regular basis, with a view to gaining a place in the Scotland team.
"Depending on my performance will determine what the future holds, but I'm not making any decisions until the end of the season," he added.
The fund-raising event is being orgainsed by the golfers' respective fathers, Ian Findlay and David Nicol to help with the costs that the young golfers will incur as they strive to make their mark in tournaments across the UK.
"The money raised on the evening will help to ensure Jordan and Kris can continue representing Fraserburgh Golf Club at National Golf Tournaments all over the British Isles in the season 2009," Ian told the Herald.
"The costs of travel, accommodation, food and entry costs are very high. Your support for these two fine golfers from the Broch will be very much appreciated.
"We have also decided that our junior members of the club should also benefit from the evening. a donation from the proceeds of the evening will be made," explained David.
The evening is being supported by local brewery BrewDog.
The event is being held at Fraserburgh Golf Club on Friday, August 15. Guests are invited to attend at 6.45pm for a complimentary drink, courtesy of local brewery Brew Dog, followed by Top or Slice and the meal scheduled for a 7.10pm start. There will also be a raffle and auction during the evening.
Tickets are £30.00 per person, with a table of ten priced at £290.00.
The dress code for the evening is smart wear.
