Vice-chair role for Provost Bill Howatson

The board of NHS Grampian has appointed Aberdeenshire Provost, Councillor Bill Howatson, to the role of vice-chairperson.

Councillor Howatson has been a non-executive board member of NHS Grampian since July 2007 and has held a number of senior appointments during that time.

He has served as an elected member since 1999 when he was elected for the Mearns South ward and is now one of the four members of the Mearns ward.

Councillor Howatson chairs the North East of Scotland Agricultural Advisory Group and the North East Fisheries Development Partnership, and represents Aberdeenshire Council on the Court of Aberdeen University.

Councillor Howatson will take up his role as vice -chairperson with immediate effect and will assume the role of chairperson of the board for the period that the Chairman, Dr David Cameron, is absent from his duties.

A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said:

“We welcome the appointment of Provost Bill Howatson as Vice Chairperson to NHS Grampian and believe he will play an important role as he assumes the temporary role of Chairperson to the Board.

“The appointment is an acknowledgement of the work of Cllr Howatson who has served as a non-executive member of the NHS Board since 2007.

“Aberdeenshire Council values its close working relationship with our partners in health and we believe this appointment will serve to enhance our partnership working.”
