a music project run by People First Fraserburgh has received a funding boost thanks to a charity lottery.

People First Fraserburgh was awarded £2,270 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Lighthouse Rock, which is run by People First Fraserburgh, is a music project which seeks to bring musical opportunities to anyone with a learning disability who lives in the North Aberdeenshire area.

The organisation has used the money to buy percussion instruments and an electric drum kit for Lighthouse Rock as well as teaching its students how to make a CD and increasing the number of people who can take part.

Lighthouse Rock which is the brain child of one of the members of People First Fraserburgh, a self advocacy organisation for people with learning disabilities, gives participants the opportunity to learn a musical skill such as singing, song writing or playing an instrument of their choice such as drums or guitar, and get involved in making their own CD. Anyone who has a learning disability and lives in the Buchan area is welcome to come along and take part.

Commenting, the mother of a young woman who joined Lighthouse Rock recently said: “I have spent 15 years looking for somewhere for my daughter to learn to sing, I am so glad Lighthouse Rock has started.”

People’s Postcode Lottery is Britain’s charity lottery. Players use their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for good causes. As a charity lottery, £2 from every monthly lottery ticket goes to charities and community initiatives across England, Scotland and Wales, including People’s Postcode Trust. People’s Postcode Lottery believes in supporting local communities so the money raised by players in each country stays in that country.
