Mrs Kathleen Catto wlecomed memebers to the June meeting of the Lonmay Women’s Rural Institute and presided over business.
Minutes were read by Mrs Hilda Gerrie, before Mrs Catto introduced the night’s guest, Mr Andrew Buchan.
Mr Buchan gave an amusing account of his journey, from counselling in Australia, working with young people in Tanzania, to his present job as a support worker with social work services. Helping young people, the group learned, helped him become interested in making and decorating cupcakes, a talent which became apparent as he transformed a tray of undecorated cupcakes in a beautiful bouquet of roses. Mr Buchan then judged the Lonmay WRI’s competitions.
Mrs Sandra Kinghorn (1st), Mrs Monica Smith (2nd) and Mrs Erica Mathew all placed for the best decorated cupcake. Mrs Julie Campbell (1st), Mrs Erica Methew (2nd) and Mrs Margaret Rodger (3rd) placed for best floral arrangement in a teacup.
After a delicious tea and home-bakes, raffles were drawn and Mrs Helen Hepburn gave the vote of thanks. Mrs Catto drew an enjoyable evening to a close.
