Lonmay WRI visits bakery in Inverurie

Lonmay WRI ladies enjoyed a visit to J. G. Ross Bakery, Inverurie, recently.

When they arrived, the group members were treated to a lovely high tea and then Cameron Ross demonstrated how they make scones and butteries.

WRI members also went on a very interesting tour of the premises and then got to sample the delicious scones.

Mr J. G. Ross gave members a very informative talk and film show which included how the business started up to the current time.

Members were all very kindly presented with a bag of butteries to take home afterwards.

Mrs Sandra Kinghorn, President, proposed the vote of thanks bringing a most enjoyable evening to a close.

The next meeting of Lonmay WRI took place on Wednesday, June 18.

Minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.

Lonmay WRI’s special guests for the evening were Jenny and Tim from the Kitchen of the Old Dragon.

They showed members various slides and gave a most informative talk on their business which focuses on making jam, marmalade and chutney.

Tim also grows a lot of the fruit andvegetables in their garden for their produce.

Members of the group eagerly participated in a taste and try of the various products and said that they were all delicious.

Jenny and Tim very kindly judged the group’s competitions for Rhubarb Jam and Favourite Cream Jug.

Results: Rhubarb Jam - 1 Bessy Buchan, 2 Linda Cheyne, 3 Roberta Watson.

Favourite Cream Jug - 1 Erica Matthew, 2 Marlene Craigie, 3 Nannie Ruxton.
