A planning application has been lodged with Aberdeenshire Council by Fraserburgh Sea Cadets for new headquarters for TS Gowanlea at Sandend.

The CO of TS Gowanlea is S/Lt (SCC) Craig Trail RNR, who told us: “This project is our next step to further the opportunities for the young people in our area.

“Currently we are full with 30 cadets on the books, however we have a growing waiting list of 13.”

S/Lt Trail explained that the new building will support 60 cadets and be able to accommodate 40 overnight.

He went on: “ This development will secure the future of the Sea Cadets in Fraserburgh as our current building is becoming unsuitable for purpose.

“We are restricted by its size so cannot take in more cadets. Moreover, the proposed new building is not situated in the centre of a very busy harbour which we cannot use for our activities.

“It will also have a comm-unity cafe and rooms for hire.

“We aim to give the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure and fun, based on the ethos and traditions of the Royal Navy.”
