Maggies announces hike date

Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres have announced the date for one of the charity’s most popular and spectacular events – the Nevis Night Hike.

The charity’s third midnight climb up Britain’s largest mountain will take place on Friday, September 21.

Participants will be lead by professional guides up the 4,408 foot mountain in the dark to arrive at the summit after midnight and descend as dawn breaks.

Back at base camp the weary but happy hikers will be welcomed back with a medal, a T-shirt, certificate and, most importantly, a hot cup of tea and bacon roll (or veggie alternative).

Maggie’s events co-ordinator Rachel Deucher said: “This is a spectacular challenge.

“It really is something to climb a mountain in the dark then come down as the sun is rising, especially among such breathtaking scenery.

“Anyone who has done if before will tell you it is a night never to forget.

“And what a way to raise such necessary funds for Maggie’s – I know everyone at Maggie’s is incredibly grateful for all the amazing efforts of the fundraisers both in physically taking on Ben Nevis at night and raising sponsorship.”

Registration costs £50 per person and we ask that you commit to raising a minimum sponsorship of £300.
