Where there is love, this is life, and that is certainly true for one Fraserburgh couple .

Georgina and Bob McDonald are celebrating after being crowned one of the community’s longest married couples.

The pair, who are both aged 90 and have been married for 70 years, were chosen as the winners of Asda Fraserburgh’s ‘longest married couple’ search ahead of Valentine’s Day.

Bob McDonald and Georgina Cowe caught each other’s eyes at a dance, although Georgina recalls that her husband was not in the Gene Kelly class of dancers.

Bob was an army cadet at the time but then left his home town of Fraserburgh to join up with pals in the paratroopers.

Among other claims to fame Georgina shares her birthday with Her Majesty the Queen, and was invited to the Queen’s birthday celebrations last year.

After finishing his military service, Mr McDonald took on a sawmill business in Fraserburgh.

As the winners of the competition, the duo were welcomed into store and gifted with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a selection of chocolates to enjoy on Valentine’s Day.

Georgina commented: “We have had a very happy life together. Yes, we’ve had our ups and downs, but we have been really lucky both with health and happiness. Sometimes we both want to be the boss, but I think I’ve won.”

When asked what the secret to their success was, Georgina added: “There has to be a balance in every relationship.”

Carolyn Taylor, community champion at Asda Fraserburgh, said: “We were so happy to welcome Robert and Georgina into the store to show our appreciation for their long and happy marriage.

“They are regular customers here at Asda Fraserburgh so it’s good to see that the pair still love each other as much as the day they first met.”
