“The Grade 4B band competed very well in only their third competition with improvements being made on each occasion and gaining experience in coping with the pressure, setting them up for next years season.

“The Grade 3B band competed in their grade playing their March Srathspey and Reel set and were happy with how the performance went. The band then prepared to play their Medley in grade 2 competing against tough opposition. The performance went well and it was down to the judges to decide who the winners were.

“Massed bands finally went ahead after a heavy downpour of rain but this wasn’t going to dampen Fraserburgh’s spirits when firstly our Juvenile Drum Major Isla Mowatt won and was also awarded the North of Scotland Champion of Champions Juvenile Drum Major.

“It was then onto the bands results and we won Grade 3 and won best Drum Corp which meant we were also awarded North of Scotland Champion of Champions Drum Corps, an amazing achievement in our first season in Grade 3, made even more special by having won the same award at the grade 4 level last year. We were also placed 4th in Grade 2 which finished off an amazing day for all the members.”

Following on from the success at Aden, the band travelled to Dunoon to compete at the last major championships of the year, the Cowal Highland Gathering on August 27.

Louise continued: “With this being the last major championships of the year, the band were hoping to finish the season in the top ten. This was achieved by being placed ninth overall with the Drum Corp achieving an amazing result being placed second.

“The band then joined the parade down through the town centre entertaining the crowds with our signature tune ‘Hokey cokey’ A good day was had by all a nice way to finish the season.”

The band is recruiting players for next season. Any experienced players for the Grade 3 band are invited to contact Denise Buchan, Pipe Major on 01346 515577 or email info@fraserburghrblpipeband.co.uk.
