Broch boy revs up for Scottish Title

A thirteen-year-old boy from Fraserburgh is becoming one of the biggest rising stars in the karting world in Scotland.

Jack Simpson is the current Grampian Kart Club Champion and came 3rd in Scottish ‘S’ Plate race after having mechanical failure. In the ‘A’ Plate Scottish Open Weekend he finished 2nd after a two day event and also won two double headers.

Jack finished last year winning the Northern Challenge reaching speeds of up to 70mph and was the youngest member in his category of 13-16 year olds.

Jack can’t wait to start the new season. He said:

“I like the speed and the atmosphere when I’m karting but mostly the adrenaline, meeting new people and getting better.

“My goals are to win all the big championships in Scotland, become Scottish champion then go on and compete in the British championship if I was to get proper funding and become the next Jenson Button.

“I would like to keep karting as I get older and maybe go into cars. I will definitely still do a form of motorsport.”

Jack’s mum Marilyn and dad John are extremely proud of Jack’s achievements:

“We are very proud of our son. When he goes karting, to see him on the track and the speeds he goes is amazing. Especially since he is just thirteen years old going at the speeds he is and the confidence he has is something else. He has definitely got a talent to driving.

“His Uncle Andrew is his mechanic and Jack has to thank him very much as he gives up a lot of his time too.”

Jack has already gained some local sponsorship from Stuart and Thompson Plumbing, George Mair Scaffolding, Rogers Electrical and Pit Lane Garage Ellon. Jack said he was very appreciative of their support:

“It’s great when local businesses support you because they believe you have a talent and I want to say thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far.”
