Councillors have approved the building of ten new homes in the village of Rathen at the Banff and Buchan Area Committee on Tuesday.

The application by Colaren Homes to build on land at Roseacre had been met with objections from neighbours but was approved by councillors at the meeting.

Gary Purves, a planner with Knight Frank and agent for the developer, said: “The site is allocated for 10 houses in the Local Development Plan and the application was recommended for approval by the planning service.

“The developer has been pro-active in speaking with local residents which has influenced our design approach, for example there are to be bungalows situated on the higher parts of the site to protect people’s views, and we have included landscaping between the new houses and the church to minimise the visual impact.”

The plan includes a bus turning area to allow the Academy school bus to safely pick up children and a pedestrian footpath to enable residents to walk to the primary school and village hall.

Colaren Homes are aiming to start work on site in early 2017.
