Hundreds of homes have been left without power in the Buchan area as the wild weather continues to better the north-east as well as across the nation.

257 customers of energy supplier SSE in Mintlaw, St Fergus and Longside have been left without power since around 1.30pm.

Engineers are on site and a SSE spokesperson estimates that power will be restored by 4.30pm.

They could not confirm the cause of the power cut as their first priority is to fix the problem before assessment, but speculated that the weather is possibly a factor.

They added: “We would like to apologise to our customers for the disruption to their supply, and assure them that we are working to have their power supplies back as safely and as quickly as possible.”

Last week, 1700 of homes in the Banff and Buchan area lost power due to Storm Frank, which has been battering the country with strong winds and heavy rain.
