Shoppers visiting the Broch and a number of other communities across Aberdeenshire can enjoy free parking on Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas.
Free parking will be available at most council-run ticketed car parks each Saturday up to and including Saturday, December 20.
Cllr Peter Argyle, chair of the council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “There is a wealth of shopping opportunities on offer across Aberdeenshire – ranging from specialist, independent stores to large national chains – and we want to make it as easy as possible for customers to get out and about.
“We hope the free parking will bring a boost to local retailers and remove the need for motorists to worry about parking times or having change for machines.”
Committee vice-chair Cllr Alan Buchan added: “We want to remind people that they don’t have to travel far to get their Christmas arrangements in order.
“As well as shopping, the range of Christmas events happening across our communities make this free parking offer even more attractive.”
The offer of free parking will not be available at council-run car parks in Inverurie as existing free parking tends to be used by shoppers travelling to Aberdeen by bus or train and it was not felt that increasing provision would encourage more shopping locally.
Meanwhile, Aberdeenshire Council is currently making arrangements to introduce free short-term parking in Aberdeenshire that will be on offer on a permanent basis.
