Fraserburgh and Strichen will both be represented at the World Champion Scotch Pie Awards after butchers from each town made the final.

Bruce of the Broch, Fraserburgh, and Bert Fowlie of Strichen have both made the final shortlist after a preliminary judging day in Dunfermline last month.

Alan Clarke, Chief Executive of Scottish Bakers -who manages the competition, said: “ One-hundred butchers and bakers entered 500 of their best products into 11 categories this year and the competition has been fierce so Bruce of the Broch and Bert Fowlie can be proud to have come this far.

He added: “The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards is the only competition of its kind recognising excellence in the preparation of a perfect pie.”

“The competition is now a regular fixture on the calendar as butchers and bakers throughout the land vie for pie supremacy and the boost to their business that always comes with such a sought after title.”

Bruce of the Broch is the current holder of the Football Pie of the Year after winning the accolade at the previous world pie championships.

The butcher supplies the two football teams in Fraserburgh and took home prizes for the pies served at both clubs.

The winner of the upcoming 18th World Champion Scotch Pie awards will be announced at a lunch hosted by TV presenter Carol Smillie on January 11 2017 at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld.

The awards was created to celebrate excellence in the sector.
