A presentation evening was held at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre recently to celebrate the achievements of young people who took part in the Prince’s Trust programme.
The graduation evening was held on December 19 to recognise the hard work of young people who completed the 12-week programme.
During the hour-long presentation event, team members explained what kind of activities they had been involved in and shared their own personal achievements with the audience.
Friends, family and representatives from partnership agencies attended the event.
During the 12 week period, the young people completed a five-day outward bounds course in Cromdale, where they had a go at canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, Gorge walking and mountain climbing.
As part of their community project, the young people painted a mural at St John’s Hall in New Pitsligo, working alongside the local primary school children to celebrate the many years John Smith’s Baker has been in New Pitsligo.
The team also raised funds to carry out the project, which saw them organise a week of fund-raising activities including a school disco and a bag-pack day at Tesco.
As well as their community project, each team member completed a two week work placement with an employer, including: CANDO, Westfield School, Superdrug, ASDA Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire Media Unit, The Fife Lodge in Banff, Banff Tyres and Peterhead Community Centre.
The team members also planned, organised and delivered five days of activities for various groups in the community, including bingo at care homes and Christmas crafts at local primary schools.
Those involved also gained nationally recognised qualifications and passed both Emergency First Aid at Work and Elementary Food Hygiene short courses.
It was a double celebration this time as team member Simone Zacha completed her 12-week 3rd year social work placement. Commenting, Prince’s Trust Team Leader John Smyth said: “The team worked so well and helped their local community so much, they should all be proud of what they have achieved. Tonight it was great to see just how far they have come in only 12 weeks.”
