Dennis Forsyth, owner of Cheers Cafe, Bar and Tavern has been put forward for The Benromach Award For Success at this year’s annual Scottish Licensed Trade Awards.

The awards are being held on July 7, at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel.

The Award seeks to reward pubs whose success stories deserve to be recognised and celebrated, and whose innovation has developed their businesses.

Cheers has also been nominated for The Sunday Mail Centenary Fund Family Pub of the Year. The category judges were looking for a family owned pub or pub group that welcomes families to its venue, and which supports local charities either by organising fund raising events or by getting staff involved in fund raising activities.

The awards, dubbed the licensed trade ‘Oscars,’ are organised by licensed trade magazine, DRAM. Now in their 19th year, they are the longest-established awards of their kind in Scotland, recognising excellence in Scotland’s bar, restaurant and hospitality industries.

Organiser and DRAM publisher Susan Young said: “The awards just get bigger and better with the passing of each year, as does the standard of entry. This year, the level of entry in each category has been nothing short of excellent, and we’ve been inundated with entry forms from all over Scotland. Our judges have been visiting the pubs and bars vying for an accolade, and we have sent out mystery shoppers too.”
