On Monday March 5, the Lonmay Parish Church Guild were hosts to seven other guilds and church groups from the area with New Deer Youth Praise Band providing the entertainment.

Each year the Church of Scotland National Guild Project Committee decides on six projects they will support and it is up to each local Guild to select which one of the six they will support.

Last year the local area supported a Crossreach Project called “On the other side” which provided support to families at the visitors’ centre in Perth Prison.

Scotland raised £73,335.11.

This year the area have decided to support HIV/AIDS Project and is committed to helping people who live with this life-threatening virus, in Scotland or overseas. With global demand for basic foodstuffs growing each year, prices are rising dramatically, forcing many of the worlds poorest people to go without meals.

For families struggling with HIV, this represents a real threat to health, and even to life, as a reliable source of good food is essential for life-saving antiretroviral drugs to work.

The evening collection will go towards the project.
