STRICHEN Community Council is on the lookout for new members.
The community council’s membership has been in steady decline in recent years leaving only a small core of local residents trying to keep the organisation alive.
In past years, Strichen has been one of the most active of community councils in Buchan and now members fear that the declining membership will lead to a significant reduction in their activities unless they can persuade local people to join their ranks.
Speaking to the Herald this week, community council secretary, Stan Tennant, said: “We would like to appeal to residents of the village of Strichen and its surrounds, who have an interest and pride in their area, to come forward and volunteer to help maintain one of the most active and involved community organisations in Buchan.
“Strichen and District Community Council has always fared extremely well in local environmental affairs such as the annual Buchan in Bloom competition, but it has succeeded mainly due to the efforts of a small number of individuals who are able and prepared to spare a few hours of their time to improve the environment of the village and the area.
“We have a meeting once a month in Strichen and would be delighted if any local residents, who would like to help, are repared to come along and join us.”
Mr Tennant said new members would be more than welcome at the next meeting, which takes place on Monday, August 27, at 7.30pm in Strichen Town Hall. Alternatively, call or email and he will help with any queries
