Planning permission is being sought to create a community garden in Fraserburgh.

The planning application is for a change of use of land to the rear of 86-92 Alexandra Terrace in the town.

The space, which is currently a disused grass park, would be used to form a 1,750-hectare community garden with car parking. The application has been made by Fraserburgh Community Garden on behalf of Fraserburgh Development Trust.

A public consultation for the project is already underway and will run until January 9 2013. Members of the public can make their comments on the proposals on the Aberdeenshire Council website.

So far, two representations have been made regarding the proposed community garden. One Fraserburgh couple said: “My husband and myself strongly object to this proposal as we feel that this is a severe invasion of privacy and we also feel it may be a nuisance problem as with everything else in Fraserburgh everything is left to go to ruin and abuse.”

Aberdeenshire Council have contacted three departments - roads, environmental health and landscaping services - in relation to the scheme.
