Council highlights danger of mobiles

Aberdeenshire Council is once again lending support to a road safety advert to raise awareness of the risks of using mobile devices when crossing roads and the possible tragic consequences.

Chairman of the Infrastructure Service Committee, Councillor Peter Argyle, said: “The aim of the ‘Bus Stop!’ project which has been running for a number of years now is to focus the minds of young people and dissuade them from being careless when they disembark from buses and cross our roads.

“The advert and campaign focuses on the risks of being distracted by things such as listening to music and/or checking phones and it is hard hitting to encourage people not to take any chances.

“The dark nights of winter mean that both drivers and pedestrians should take extra care and the adverts and work that is taking place are just a part of the many road safety activities taking place with our partners and young people to reduce accidents.”
