Councillor still has hopes of star street

Fraserburgh community councillor John Lovegrove, the group’s treasurer, still has hopes of Irish songster Daniel O’Donnell’s name being used for a new housing development in Fraserburgh.

A decision on what the new street will be called will be made later this year when a full meeting of Aberdeenshire Council takes place.

It had originally been proposed that the street be named after William Wallace.

Mr Lovegrove, however, has continued to suggest Daniel O’Donnell.

Having attended a concert in Aberdeen recently, Mr Lovegrove, who is a member of the singer’s fan club, said: “There were a lot of the fan club members there, and the concert was great.

“I would like to see him back in the Broch for the street,” he added.

Suggestions for the street’s name had been sought by Councillor Brian Topping earlier the year through The Fraserburgh Herald, with dozens coming forward, from memorable locals to war heroes.
