A Balmedie couple have recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Doreen and Charles (Charlie) Fowler marked the special occasion at their home last Thursday and nearly 70 friends and family joined the pair at Ellon’s Station Hotel on Sunday.
The couple met at a Valentine’s dance at Dunecht Hall.
She added: “He took me up for the quick step and we have been quick stepping all the way ever since!”
Doreen, aged 81 and Charlie, aged 86, enjoy going on long walks together, dancing every Saturday in Oldmeldrum, as well as regularly attending the Ellon Ramblers.
The couple asked for no presents but small donations instead to UCAN and the eye clinic in Aberdeen.
Mrs Fowler said: ”So far we have raised around £740 which I am very pleased about!”
Togetherness is the secret to a successful marriage according to Doreen.
She added: “We always discuss things together. Of course we have a difference of opinion but never anything serious.”
Their son, Brian said that he thinks his parents have stayed together throughout due to having fun and keeping faith and from coming from an era where they worked hard.
The couple have two grandchildren - Ciaran, aged 22 - who is getting married to Stephanie Milne in the next few weeks - and Devon aged 17.
