Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses following a deliberate fire at a former hotel in Fraserburgh last night.

Police along with the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service received reports of a well-established fire at a residential building in the Seaforth Street area at around 9pm that was formally the Station Hotel.

Following a joint investigation between Police and the fire service today, officers are now treating the incident as suspicious.

Detective Sergeant George Nixon, who is leading the investigation, said: "I would urge anyone with information to contact Police as soon as possible.

"Thankfully noone was hurt and everyone in the building accounted for, however it goes without saying that the consequences of such reckless behaviour could have had fatal consequences.

"Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers if you would prefer to remain anonymous on 0800 555111."
