A police investigation is underway after a horse was stabbed and sexually assaulted in the Aberdeenshire village of New Pitsligo.

23-year-old female pony Blaze was stabbed twice in the chest and ‘sexually violated’ between the hours of 9 pm and 6am on the night of Sunday 16.

The horse’s owner Zoe Wright said in a Facebook post: “Anyone in the area (New Pitsligo) please check you horses, if they have any suspicious cuts or you see anyone acting oddly please contact the police.”

Ms Wright, 30, from Maud, has offered a £1000 reward to anyone who provides information that results in an arrest.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We have received a complaint about the incident and inquiries are ongoing.”
