The mother of a Fraserburgh man who has been missing for nearly two years has been charged with wasting police time.

Carol Roy, the mother of Shaun Ritchie, has been charged with the offence two months shy of the second anniversary of her son.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm a 38-year-old woman has been charged in connection with wasting police time.

“A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Shaun Ritchie went missing on Halloween night 2014 and despite one of the largest police hunts in the Scottish force’s history Shaun has never been found.

Mr Ritchie was last seen on farmland in the Strichen area.
