Sensible quad biker seeks safe area

Quad bikes used improperly or illegally can pose a major safety problem. The question is, where can these vehicles be used legally and without putting other citizens at risk.

Councillor Brian Topping has been approached by one quad biker asking that very question. The lad concerned has no wish to cause a nuisance, but he would like to continue with his hobby and all the exhilarating fun it provides.

Definite no-go areas include sand dunes, which can be seriously damaged as the grass roots which help hold them together are displaced; and the beach itself.

Mr Topping is working with the Policy and Resources Committee to try to establish safe and sensible areas for quad bikes to use.

Meanwhile, new signs are to be erected clarifying the law and giving a number to call in case of transgressions
