Fraserburgh Inner Wheel is celebrating its diamond jubilee this year and is marking the occasion with a fundraising drive for the Palliative Care Unit at Fraserburgh Hospital.

President Beatrice Fawkes told the Herald that careful consideration was given to various projects, with the decision being made to support the unit as it is a local facility which means so much to so many people in the area.

The Wheel hopes to raise sufficient funds to increase the number of beds at Fraserburgh Hospital which are fitted with specialised mattresses that alleviate bedsores. In order to achieve their objective, the organisation has various fundraisers planned for the forthcoming months. Mrs Fawkes continued: “We have several activities planned including quizzes, floral art demonstrations and a Christmas hamper. These activities follow on from the success of our Easter hamper and our attendance at the Blue Light Festival, however there will be more fundraising activities to come.”

John Tait of Fraserburgh Hospital said: “We are delighted that the Inner Wheel has chosen to support the hospital and such a worth while cause, benefiting the local community with additional palliative care facilities.”
