Aberdeenshire Council are reminding parents and carers of pre-school children that application packs for council nursery classes and in approved independent playgroups as well as private day nurseries will be availabel January 13.
Every child in Aberdeenshire is currently entitled to five free education sessions per week in 2.5hr blocks during term time. This applies from the term after their third birthday.
There are three admission periods for pre-school children to local authority run nurseries which are August 2014 for children who be aged 3 by 31 August 2014, January 2015 for children who will be aged 3 by 31 December 2014 and April 2015 for children who will be aged 3 by February 28, 2015.
Parents are asked to submit application forms by no later than Friday, January 24 for those children wishing to access local authority nurseries.
Those wishing to access places at approved independent playgroups and private day nurseries should submit an application form directly to their choice of approved pre-school provider. This can be submitted at any point during the year.
Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee Councillor Isobel Davidson said: “Aberdeenshire supports a range of early years places which allows parents to select the best place for their child to get the very best start in life.
“The council website provides a lot of information for parents who are thinking about pre-school and I encourage them to check the dates and apply as soon as possible.”
Vice-chair Councillor Ron McKail added “It can be an exciting and daunting time for many young people and families, but parents can be reassured that their children will receive the highest possible standards of early education”
An application pack ‘Applying for Early Years Pre-School Education for your Child: 2014/15’ will be available from the pre-school education setting of choice and should be returned to the same location.

All of the groups listed are inspected by Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate, as well as being quality assured by the council.
