A Joinery student at Banff and Buchan College, was recognised for his efforts at a prize giving ceremony in the College Carpentry & Joinery workshop on Tuesday.

Mark Patterson was awarded the Jim Gardiner Memorial Shield prize for the Carpentry & Joinery apprentice of the year.

Curriculum Leader Kevin Bruce was keen to commend his efforts and encourage him and his fellow classmates to take their positive attitudes into the workplace.

Kevin said: “Mark is a hard working conscientious apprentice who always tries his hardest and does a good job. He applied for a joinery apprenticeship with Alexander Duthie and Son and through that he has come back to College to achieve his SVQ qualifications. Mark works well in both practical and theory and is always on hand to offer help to classmates.”

This is the tenth year the Jim Gardiner Memorial Shield has been presented. The shield was donated by Mrs Jane Gardiner in memory of her late husband and has been awarded to the best carpentry and joinery student annually since 2003.
