Playwright in visit to Academy

John Binnie, award winning playwright, took time out from his busy schedule to visit the pupils of several English
classes at Fraserburgh Academy.

Mr Binnie has written and is currently directing the pantomime ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at the Webster Theatre in Arbroath. While in the academy, Mr Binnie worked with a small group of advanced higher pupils studying Othello which the pupils found very
beneficial.

S5 pupils had an entertaining and informative time as they acted out
Romeo and Juliet, giving them a better understanding of the play and making it more real for
them.

Following on from his busy morning, Mr Binnie then held a very successful creative writing workshop with a class of S4 pupils where he discussed the different techniques and approaches used in writing, as well as detailing how characterisation plays an important role in the writing world.

The visit was jointly funded by Fraserburgh Academy and Creative Scotland’s Live Literature programme, which is managed by
Scottish Book Trust.
