The village of Inverallochy and its annual Christmas Day walk features on BBC Radio Scotland’s Christmas Day schedule.

The programme entitled, The Cotton Walk forms part of the BBC Radio Scotland Our Story series presented by Mark Stephen.

In the run -up to Christmas, Mark spent a day in Inverallochy discovering the history of the walk, gathering personal memories from walk participants and collecting recordings of the Inverallochy primary school pupils’ flute band. In the half-hour programme, Mark talks to Chairman and Bandmaster of The Cotton Walk, Bruce Buchan, Inverallochy Primary School head teacher, Eunice Stephen and her father, Bobby Stephen, the oldest participant on the walk, Georgie Ritchie, who provides flute lessons to the school pupils and Janet Whyte and her husband Bobby, who at 91 is the oldest flute player on The Cotton Walk. The flute band from Inverallochy primary school, supplemented by some older members of the walk band provide the music for the programme, as well as telling Mark what The Cotton Walk means to them.

To coincide with Inverallochy walk day, the programme will be transmitted on Christmas Day on BBC Radio Scotland (92 – 95 FM) at 9am.

The programme will also be available on BBC i-player.
