A Fraserburgh couple are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.
Robert and Elizabeth Cardno, known as Bobby and Betty, celebrated their Blue Sapphire wedding anniversary on Sunday, February 3.
To mark the special occasion, the couple were presented with flowers and chocolates from Fraserburgh and District councillor Charles Buchan on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council.
Bobby was born in Cairnbulg, while Betty comes from the neighbouring village of St Combs. The couple have lived in their house in Fraserburgh for 37 years.
The couple have no fewer than two sons and two daughters as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
During her career, Betty worked on the trains as a railway clerkess and Bobby was a joiner, working for W. Bruce and sons. Reminiscing, Bobby said he “really enjoyed those 20 years”.
Bobby was 24 years old and Betty 22 years old when they tied the knot.
To mark the milestone anniversary the couple were sent a card from the Queen, the second such card they have received from her. They also received a beautiful array of flowers and other presents from family and friends.
To celebrate their anniversary, Bobby and Betty had a special family meal at the Tufted Duck in St Combs.
Commenting on the secrets of a long and happy marriage, Betty said: “We’ve just worked together.”
Councillor Charles Buchan commented: “Betty and Bobby are to be congratulated for being married 65 years and the community sends its best wishes for the future.”
