Fraserburgh Lifeboat Station recently played host to a group of Finnish lifeboat volunteers who were spending a week at the Maritime Rescue Institute, Stonehaven.
Deputy Coxswain Graeme Duthie showed the visitors around the station and the boat. Alex Spencer of the Maritime Rescue Institute accompanied David Anderson, Petra Mattson, Stephan Remmer and Lars Gottisberg from Åland Search and Rescue.
Åland consists of 6,757 islands situated midway between Sweden and Finland.
The highlight of their visit was a guided tour of the Fraserburgh Lifeboat, “The Willie and May Gall” and a trip around Fraserburgh Bay on the boat helmed by Graeme Duthie. They were accompanied by deputy mechanics Iain Reid and Colin Mcleman and volunteer crew members Kira Downie, William McDonald and Shane Richardson.
The Finnish vistors were very impressed with the commitment, camaraderie and friendship shown by the local crew and complimented them on the condition of the 10 year old Broch Lifeboat.
Commenting, one of the Finnish visitors said: “The boat is so clean and well maintained that you would think that it had come straight from the yard.”
