Broch born singer Wendy Carle Taylor will be launching her debut album in her sensational one off Fringe Show Burns2Brel 2! on Friday August 19.
Overcoming her intitial shyness to sing by joining the Central School and West Church choirs, Wendy went on to become Fraserburgh Junior Arts youngest ever principle girl at the age of 12, when she starred in Little Miss Muffet.
Five years ago, encouraged by family, colleagues and friends, Wendy decided to focus more on where her heart lay. She took the plunge, gave up a highly successful career in education and began performing in public professionally.
Wendy, who is now based in Edinburgh, will perform songs by Robert Burns, Jacques Brel, Violet Jacob, Tom Springfield and Woody Guthrie amongst others in her fourth Fringe show which will be held in the beautifully refurbished brand new Fringe venue at Bruntsfield Evangelical Church.
Speaking on the decision about which songs to include in Burns2Brel 2! Wendy said: “I love these ‘poets of the people’ because they are just as relevant to us today as they ever were. They explore our common humanity, our raw complexities and the quest for justice and peace. The songs are a celebration of life and death, love and passion, humour and joy!”
From her first concert at the Festival Fringe in 2008, Wendy’s shows have become firm favourites, garnering great reviews from audiences and critics alike and becoming last year’s Fringe sell-out event winning a Laurel award.
With an ever-growing international fan base, Wendy cannot wait to perform in 2011, she added: “I am so lucky to be doing what I love. Friends have been teasing me as this year’s new venue is so close to my doorstep that I can practically tumble out of bed to go to rehearse and prepare for Burns2Brel 2!”
