The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses in Fraserburgh has received a major funding boost.
At a recent meeting of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, members agreed to proposals to offer the Lighthouse £90,000 of funding for 2013/14.
A Service Level Agreement will now be set up to ensure continuity of service provision including schools programmes, events and tourist marketing campaigns.
Commenting, Councillor Charles Buchan said: “As a member of the Education, Learning and Leisure Committee I am very pleased that the committee is to set up a Service Level Agreement with the Lighthouse Museum to help the Museum’s visitor attraction service, providing family friendly educational and schools programmes, events, tours, and expansion of its volunteer programmes.
“The Museum will be offered £90,000 for the next 12 months, 2013/14.
“I was pleased to support this proposal, and thank the Committee members for their belief in the Museum, shown by the £90,000 offer.”
Fellow Fraserburgh and District Councillor Brian Topping commented: “This is very welcome news. This will help the Museum to progress and maintain its tourism offering, and keep its position as a big attraction for the town.”
