Hairdresser Jim hands over reins after 41 years

After 41 years in business, local hairdresser Jim Cowe has handed over the reigns as he takes up retirement.

Jim’s Hairdressers in Mid Street has been a firm fixture of the town for decades. Jim, who started up the business with the help of the Commercial Bank, explained that the bank encouraged him to cater for men and women initially.

But in 1994 he decided to cater soley for gents and the business has remained that way since.

Taking over at the helm are Noreen Christie and Brenda Wallace who will be known to regular clients as they have worked with Jim for the last 18 years.

Jim commented: “The support provided by local people to small businesses is crucial in keeping town centres alive so I would like to thank all my loyal clients over the years for making my career so pleasurable, I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I would also like to thank Noreen and Brenda for their loyalty over the last 18 years and I wish them all the best.”

Taking over the reigns, Noreen and Brenda explained that it will be business as usual, they said: “We are carrying on as Jim’s, keeping the name as a mark of respect for Jim and will remain a gents salon. “
