Aberdeenshire Council is in the process of carrying out a series of information sessions to provide information to residents about self directed support, a new way of choosing care.
The information events are open to people who receive care services, or care for someone who may be eligible for services and began last week in Macduff, Fraserburgh and Peterhead.
The next events will take place in Formartine (Ellon and Turriff) on Wednesday, April 25, with more planned throughout Aberdeenshire until November.
A Self-Directed Support Bill is passing through the Scottish Parliament and follows a national strategy for self directed support produced by the Scottish Government to make this approach central to the way care is provided in Scotland.
Self directed support is about giving people who need care more choice and control about what kind of support they receive and how it is delivered.
For instance, someone who currently attends a day service could instead be given a budget to manage and build their own care package to include an art class within a local college instead.
You can attend a meeting on Wednesday, April 25, from 11am ‘till 1pm at the Kirk Centre, Ellon, or from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Dawson Court, Turriff.
