2010 Moonlight Prowl beckons!
WITH only little over a week to go until the 5th annual Moonlight Prowl in Fraserburgh, the organisers are getting all the last minute arrangements finalised.
This year's Moonlight Prowl, which kicks off at 10pm next Saturday (June 5) from the car park at the Dalrymple Hall and Arts Centre, will feature two routes - one covering six miles and a second 13 miles in length around Fraserburgh.
In years past the volume of ladies taking part in their pink T-shirts has been an amazing sight and thanks to the support of local folk and householders along the route and all the volunteer helpers, the atmosphere created is a really happy, friendly and encouraging one for everyone involved.
As in previous years, numbers have exceeded all expectations with over 1,300 registering to take part this year, including women from all over the North-east and beyond.
To add to the spectacle, members of Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society and children from local schools have been learning some circus skills with the assistance of Theatre Modo from Glasgow so that they can perform as walkers set off on the route and then throughout the evening at various points along the way.
Look out for the juggling, fire breathing and swinging and be amazed at the stilt walkers helping the ladies on their way!
The Moonlight Prowl is part of the fight against breast cancer and its unique partnership with the University of Aberdeen and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has helped establish a number of research projects related to DNA and the effect of lifestyle choices, the spreading of tumours, specifically to the bones and developing clinical practice to support people living with Breast Cancer.
Since its inception five years ago the Fraserburgh-based Moonlight Prowl has raised over 340,000 for research into the prevention and treatment of breast cancer at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the University of Aberdeen.
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women. It is estimated that 1 in 10 women will be affected by breast cancer during their lifetime. However, survival rates are increasing substantially and almost 80% will beat breast cancer.
Anyone willing to help in any way eg. marshalling, providing sandwiches / home bakes or serving teas in the hall please contact any committee member.
