CHALLENGE: Pupils from Fraserburgh, Hazlehead, Meldrum and Aberdeen Grammar prepare to compete in the Northsound One Energy Challenge sponsored by TOTAL E&P UK.

Pupils from Fraserburgh Academy went head to head recently with Meldrum Academy in the second round of the quarter-finals of this year’s Northsound Energy Challenge.

Fraserburgh Academy pupils Martin Coull, Jack McKenzie, Fiona Bruce and Andrew Henderson were narrowly pipped to the post in the final round by only three points – Meldrum winning with a total of 47.

During the event, which was sponsored by and held at TOTAL E&P UK’s Altens office, the teams answered questions on the energy industry, sport, entertainment, music and general knowledge.

Representing the city schools were Aberdeen Grammar and Hazlehead, with the latter going through to the semi-final having beat Grammar 53–50.

Northsound 1’s programme director, Gary Muircroft said: “The annual Energy Schools Challenge has become an important part of Northsound One’s programming over the past 14 years.

“It’s a unique opportunity for listeners and school pupils to discover more about the energy industry and the many career opportunities.

“Support from key sponsors, like TOTAL E&P UK, ensures the challenge continues to educate, inspire and deliver key information about the energy sector to young people.”

If you would like to hear for yourself how well the pupils did, then tune in to Northsound 1 on Sunday, November 18 at 3:30 pm.
